WHO WE ARE
My name is Courtney Young. I am a mom of two boys and have been married to my husband for 14 years. We live in a small rural community called Big Spring, Texas. My youngest son and I have many health issues and frequently have to go to multiple specialists for our healthcare needs. Many of my friends and family also need specialist care often, and the rural area we live in lacks those specialists. A lot of my friends and family have rare conditions, and I consider this to mean they are wonderfully made, as it says in the Bible. My biggest goal is to make specialist healthcare more accessible in my community to help the members of my community meet their healthcare needs.

WHAT WE DO
Rural HealthCare
All over the place, many people have specialized healthcare needs ranging from young to old. We all have healthcare needs but what about those who have more unique healthcare needs? What do the people who need to see specialists in different fields so that they can treat whatever rare conditions they are struggling with do when there is no option? In rural areas, these kinds of doctors are especially difficult to access, whether it is because the area does not have those kinds of specialists or whether they are too far to travel to see these doctors. Not having access to this care can cause families many issues from not being able to work and in turn struggling financially to putting hardships on their friends and family, and many other difficulties. Many people in rural areas have a hard enough time already getting access to healthcare specialists because of poverty levels, lack of insurance, and/or transportation issues. Options for specialists in these areas are slim to none. Neighboring cities may have the options people are looking for to treat their condition but then comes in the transportation difficulties. In the small rural town of Big Spring, TX this is a big issue and has been for decades. More than half of the population sees one or more specialists for their specific care. My son and I are among those who struggle to see specialists to treat our unique healthcare needs. People in Big Spring can sometimes have to travel as far as four hours to see a specialist in the field they need.
